Office For the Week: New Holland Coffee, 29 East King Street, Lancaster

New Holland Coffee breakfast sandwich - May 2026

Happy Saturday Friends,

Hope you had a lovely week. Today's post is a short and sweet highlight of New Holland Coffee, Downtown Lancaster which was my "office for the week" (you can read about my week here).

Since finishing my first degree, I have worked from home, tried two co-working spaces in Lancaster, and I am now back to exploring coffee shops. One of the main drivers of this, is the fact that I will be in full student mode from later this Summer, and I need to secure a couple of spots that I can work/study from as I dig into matters Addiction.

I also think I am more creative and productive at coffee shops (than in an office/library/coworking/at home). I actually built my multi-award winning mental health social enterprise from a coffee shop or two (shout out to Java House and Art Cafe at The Junction, Nairobi...good old days) before re-purposing a ran down hair salon into our first office (when we started seeing clients in person), then moving to Adams Arcade to make the commute easier for those seeking therapy and psychiatric services. Those we were amazing times, and I am excited that I got to spend my twenties and early thirties 'disrupting' mental health service delivery.

If this theory still holds, I might come up with a kick ass thesis for my Addiction Studies Masters, and land me an amazing supervisor for my next world changing initiative (but I digress).
Love this wood fixture & plant wall - New Holland Coffee, Lancaster May 2026

This week, I spent a large chunk of my time at New Holland Coffee on East King Street Lancaster (it has a couple of branches across the county). This was not my first time there, I have popped in a couple of times before (and mentioned it once on this blog).

Throwback to a dinner and reading pop in during the winter (March 2026), sat on the other side of the plant wall

This was, however, my first time sitting for extended periods of time on consecutive days (office style). A couple of things I noticed:
  • They had women workers for the three days I was there. Not sure if it is their MO or if the shifts that week made it that way, but it was interesting to note (the social scientist in me is always working overtime).
  • A couple of people work from there
  • It had a continuous stream of people coming in and out to place orders and do their own pick up. Got busier towards lunch time, but not crazy crowded busy.
Because it is an eatery, I ordered a couple of things during those three days.

My meals as I worked on Kibanda ya Sitawa + Client Research -
1. Breakfast Sandwich 2. Tomato Soup (soup of the day) 3. Mex Tex Rice Bowl 4. Turkey Sandwich

VERDICT: A good spot to work/read/people watch from...definitely working from here again.

Can't wait to share next week's "office"
