| Good vibes at Southern Market, Lancaster |
Earlier this year, I heard that a new food vendor would be joining the Southern Market roster, but it wasn’t until yesterday that I finally went to check them out. (That’s how deeply I fear being out during the cold season).

Like everything in Lancaster, Southern Market is both a historical and newly restored building.
Records show the building was originally established in 1888 as a farmers market before later closing, becoming office space, and eventually being transformed (in 2022) into the food hall and incubator space it is today.

I really like the incubator concept. Think of it as a food court that provides space to food startups, and with a bar in the middle. Southern Market provides kitchen space and resources for small food businesses to grow before eventually opening their own full-fledged restaurants.
Every so often, Southern Market highlights new vendors, and that’s how I first heard about Raggamuffin’s Kitchen.
I ordered the jerk chicken with mac and cheese. I was hoping for greens, but they only had cabbage, which I didn’t love.
They also had a few drink options available, but I decided to grab something from Bar 1888 (Southern Market’s bar, named after the year the original market was established).
I brought a book with me, and honestly, the whole experience was amazing. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was relaxed, I need to do more random stuff like this.
Southern Market usually hosts trivia nights and has a DJ once a month, but I’ve officially reached the stage in life where planning things feels like a full-time job and spontaneity is the name of the game…hopefully I will spontaneously go when they have one of their scheduled events.

Random or planned, I will definitely be back at Southern Market, and I know I will order from RaggaMuffin’s kitchen again. I will update this post when I try more items from their menu.
If you’re looking for good Caribbean food in Lancaster or want to explore Southern Market food vendors, Raggamuffin’s Kitchen is worth checking out.
