Spring Blooms, Cory Booker's 25-Hour Speech, Arsenal Highlights, and Chimamanda's New Book Release

April 01, 2025

Part of the reasons I love spring, every morning I am greeted by this bouquet - Lancaster, April 2025

Good evening beautiful people,

And Happy first day of the second quarter of 2025.

My God, these days are flying by. The Sun is definitely keeping up with her 2025 fitness goals...because there is no other explanation for how quickly the days and nights are flipping on us.

I’m excited about this new quarter and very grateful for all the amazing things that happened last quarter—except that vending event I did for a client last Tuesday. That thing really wiped me out. I was cool-ish on Wednesday but then it was downhill after that. My big lesson from that experience? Selling products (which I do for my own business) and selling services (which is what I was doing for my client) are very different. With products, people can touch and feel them; they know if they like them or not. But with services, you have to introduce people to something invisible and take them on a journey... and I took 40+ people on a mental journey.

Speaking of journeys, let’s talk about the one Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey just took the American Senate on.

Cory Booker’s 25-Hour Marathon Speech: A Historic Moment in Politics

This post is actually inspired by that journey.

I literally just finished watching Senator Cory Booker’s 25+ hour speech...okay, the last 30 minutes of it. The previous record was 24 hours and 18 minutes, held by Strom Thurmond (who spoke against the civil rights movement). When I heard Booker had crossed the 24-hour mark, I was curious to see how much further he would go—no food, no bathroom breaks, and standing the whole time. I know this will be in the news cycle for the rest of the week, so I’ll leave all the analysis to your favorite broadcaster.
The crowd could not hold back when Saka stepped into the field -
Premier League Football Highlights: Saka is BACK!!!

Another hot topic definitely making the rounds will be the return of Premier League football after yet another international break—aka, another opportunity to lose our players. Arsenal played today, and I had my eye on that game, as well as the Manchester United - Nottingham Forest game. NF are just a few points below us and could easily climb to the top if we slack off

One of the things we’re so excited about is having Saka back after that hamstring injury. Just seven minutes after coming on as a substitute, he scored a goal...it was like he never left! We won 2-1 against Fulham, and NF beat Man United 1-0.

Book Time: Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Latest Release

Clearly, today was an amazing day for me, with all these exciting things happening. Before I log off, I just want to share that I got my hands on Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s latest book, which was released in mid-March. Long live Lancaster Public Library - they emailed me yesterday to let me know they had a copy on hold for me, so I picked it up today. I might be the one doing a whole 25-hour marathon—not speaking, but reading. I’m really looking forward to diving into her latest work which is a non-fiction book. It’s been a while since she’s published a nonfiction book, so I’m eager to see what this one is all about...until my review, check out my post on her essay 'We Should All Be Feminists' where I relive my Spoken Word Days.

I have a couple of commitments tomorrow and Thursday before another client event on Friday (the open house I’ve been talking about). I’ll give an update if it doesn’t wipe me out. For now, have yourself a lovely evening.

Sending love and light,
Sitawa
