Classical Pianist & Composer Chloe Flower at the Ware Centre, Lancaster

October 18, 2024

This evening's program - Lancaster, October 2024
Good evening beautiful people,

Just got home from an AMAZING performance by Classical Pianist and Composer, Chloe Flower (Won) at the Ware Centre in Downtown Lancaster.
Her Resume is IMPRESSIVE - Lancaster, October 2024
She is a Pennsylvania native (I am officially cheering PA natives like I do Kenyans), who has performed in some pretty impressive spaces, and with impressive people.

This was her first performance in her home state...and I am so excited Millersville University made it happen.
Before the show began - Ware Centre, Lancaster, October 2024
She played about 10 songs ranging from tributes to some composers in the classical world (mostly female) that she admires to contemporary pieces that she composed for her album, and for various events/shows.

When Chloe Flower got on stage - Ware Centre, Lancaster, October 2024
She shared her journey in between pieces, mentioning that she started playing when she was 2 years old, went to London’s Royal Music Academy (later in her academic journey), was signed by Babyface and played for Cardi B at the Grammys and the President at the Kennedy Centre.
Her in between set conversations - Ware Centre, Lancaster, October 2024
Her first set had 5 or so songs, with my best piece being flower through the concrete (will link the YouTube video at the end of this post), which she composed during the pandemic.

She then asked Caroline Campbell, a violinist, to join her on stage. Like her, Campbell is a classical trained, and also does contemporary pieces/mash-ups.

They did Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence together before Campbell did her own set (something about that set kept taking me back to Cartoons - for some reason I kept thinking how much we never listen to music composition/ give it as much credit).

Chloe then did another set on her own.

My best pieces from that second set were Get what you get - which she mentioned she did with Ariana Grande's producer (for some reason I kept thinking about Ciara’s like a man as she played - listen to it and let me know).
What an amazing show - Ware Centre, Lancaster, October 2024
I also liked bohemia which she mentioned was originally written as a score for Kevin Hart but wasn’t picked…so she expanded it.

For her last piece, she called Campbell back on stage and they closed the night with No limit.
I am officially a Chloe Flower fan.

I loved the ease - and fun - she had on stage. It felt like we were more in her space as opposed to her ‘entertaining us’. She owned the room, and key board with such elegance, I kept thinking to myself that I would love to play the piano as I watched her - this was before she mentioned that she used to practice for 12 hours a day when she was in school…and my dreams were cut short.

I also loved that she kept talking about having more women composers. I also love that she walked the talk by not only honoring her favs, but also bringing another woman on stage. Most importantly, even without talking to her (and stalking, excuse me doing research on her), I appreciate that she is being that change she wants to see in her field by paving her own way of playing and composing classical music. I am not in that field but I felt really inspired as I watched her transport us to far away lands.

have subscribed to her mailing list and look forward to listening to more music from her.

I leave you with the song she wrote during the pandemic…for some reason it gave me that ‘it shall be alright feel’ - I pray you feel it as you settle in for the night/or start your day.

Until the next concert,

Sending love and light,
Sitawa
